Overworked and underpaid
are words that come to mind when I think of the nursing profession.
I recently witnessed them
in action (unfortunately for the daughter’s ankle). And I have to say, I was moved by their
compassion, not only to the daughter, but to each person in that ER waiting room
– especially considering the chaos that they work in.
From the volunteer who
offered us a lift from the car park to the Emergency ward, the soothing words
to the stressed patient tired of clock watching, and the call made to the
kitchen to deliver lunch to the frazzled Mum who had run out of change for the
vending machine, it is obvious these people care.
It’s the ‘simple’ things
that make a difference to our lives. A
smile, a comforting hand, our time, a grateful word.
So, to the Doctors, Nurses,
Physios, Radiographers and Volunteers I encountered today, you not only helped the
daughter’s ankle, you proved compassion is fundamental, and I simply say:
Thank you. J
